Winning awards is fast becoming one of the best ways for small businesses to stand out from the crowds – according to Wellington businesswoman Lisa Martin, Managing Director of bookkeeping and accounting company, GoFi8ure.

Ms Martin, who recently scooped the Leadership Award – while GoFi8ure received the Education in Business Award – at the Westpac & Hutt Valley Business Excellence Awards ceremony on Friday (7th Nov 2014), says winning an industry award will instantly raise a business’ profile as well as enhance its reputation.

“Award schemes often have big name sponsors behind them and know all about promotion. If you’re a winner or a finalist you’ll benefit from the publicity. This is likely to make you more visible within your business community and to potential customers.

She adds that to be able to say that your company is “award-winning” carries with it prestige and credibility.

“Your current customers will be impressed by your award-win, as in their minds it reinforces that they are with the right people. For prospective clients it shows that you are at the top of your game, you’re the professionals – and this gives you the edge over your competition.

“It’s also a great opportunity for team building. Taking a table at an awards dinner is fun and does wonders for everyone’s business esteem. Winning is the ultimate team motivator.”

GoFi8ure has won two significant awards this year, Friday’s one and the prestigious Xero Bookkeeper of the Year Award. The company was a finalist in the recent Wellington Gold Awards. Last year, Lisa won the Best Boss National Award.
