ATAINZ
Our GoFi8urines know it’s crucial for every business to have a quality accountant who is on top of their game.
You need a superhero on your side to make sure you’re getting the best advice and support. That’s why GoFi8ure Executive Director Lisa Martin joined ATAINZ – Accountants and Tax Agents in New Zealand.
All ATAINZ members agree that SMEs need support from accountants who are going to help create transformational change, not just carry out the transactions. ATAINZ members are accountants who have united to drive our own clients’ success. And it’s Lisa’s pleasure to be contributing to the cause!
As a Board Member and PTBA, Lisa’s profile is featured on the ATAINZ website.
“Lisa has a history of belonging to professional member organisations that aim to boost the quality of the financial industry. Prior to being an ATAINZ member, she was helping to enhance the reputation of the bookkeeping community. She was on the NZ Bookkeeper’s Association board for eight years, and worked hard to make sure that the value professional bookkeepers bring was recognised.
Lisa went back to university, achieved a degree in business majoring in accounting, and was then accepted to the CPA programme. Lisa’s vision was that her business, GoFi8ure, would be regarded as a transformational accounting business and tax agent.
To achieve that vision, she needed to belong to a credible accounting and tax agent organisation, and chose to join ATAINZ. She achieved the highest membership tier possible, becoming a Professional Tax & Business Advisor (PTBA). Being a PTBA means she has been invited to be part of advisory cohorts, providing a practical perspective on government initiatives and proposed changes. It also means Lisa’s business receives a practice review every five years, to demonstrate the high standard of G Fi8ure’s work and continually reach for even higher achievement.
Two years ago, Lisa joined the ATAINZ Board. Since then, she has really championed the education, regional events, and promotion aspects. She participates in everything she can, and is also a mentor in our internal mentoring programme.”
Case Study 1 – Understand What Your Numbers Mean!
One of our clients was going through a period of immense stress and turmoil in her personal life, and needed to approach her bank for some critical lending.
Our GoFi8urines took the time to make sure the client understood her numbers, could run relevant reports, and make comparisons.
The client took a strong plan to her bank, and instead of it being an overwhelmingly stressful time, she was prepared and confident that she knew her numbers. This meant she was able to gain the stability she needed to keep earning and providing for her family – you know, the truly important stuff!
Case Study 2 – Make Sure You’re Not Overpaying Your Tax!
When we onboarded a new client, our superheroes immediately found that the structure of their financial statements, year-end balance journals, and tax returns did not meet accounting standards.
Using all of our superpower might, we rebuilt all of their accounts and systems to meet professional requirements. When it came time to do the year-end tax, we also noticed that there was no paperwork recorded for the around $11,000 spent with Customs. That meant that the old accountant never noticed that they were actually owed GST as a result! What!? We even advocated for them with IRD, as they couldn’t believe such an oversight could have happened.
In the end, our transformed client received a $5,000 GST refund, and their accounts now meet all of their reporting obligations – who’d have thought!?
Are you confident your accountant would do these types of things for you? GoFi8ure isn’t just collecting a subscription and churning out GST returns, because we’re not just your accountants, we’re invested in your business!
